ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska Aces television and radio play-by-play voice Mike Benton and accompanying telecast crew were recipients in the 2014 Goldie Awards, recognized by the Alaska Broadcasters Association for their outstanding presentation in the TV Sports Play-by-Play category.

The annual award ceremony, hosted by the Alaska Broadcasters Association, recognized television play-by-play coverage of the Aces triumph in Game 6 of the 2014 Kelly Cup Finals from Cincinnati, where they captured their ECHL record-tying third Kelly Cup championship. Telecast coverage was available statewide on KTVA-CBS 11 and GCI Channel 1, while simulcast live on radio, on 750 AM/103.7 FM KFQD.

Benton, 33, is currently in his second season as Aces play-by-play voice, has called over 700 games, and has served behind the mic for three ECHL All-Star Game broadcasts. He hosts "ACES Insider" each Tuesday, 6-7pm on CBS Sports Radio 590, has served in on-air roles with the Vancouver Canucks YoungStars Tournament, and is heard as a frequent contributor on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio. His call of last season's ECHL Hockey Heritage Weekend telecast was made available nationwide to over 69 million households and replayed on NHL Network.

KTVA-TV's coverage was additionally led by director/producer Shirley Enzor, technical coordinator Trent McNelly and engineer Jim Filley.

The award continues a tradition of honors taken home by Alaska Aces broadcasters. Benton joins former Aces broadcast voices Josh Bogorad and Jack Michaels (five-time play-by-play recipient), both currently working in the National Hockey League, to receive a Goldie Award.
