Reno Aces News Release

RENO, Nevada - The Reno Aces will begin a nine-game homestand with beautiful weather in the forecast on Wednesday, April 24, when they host the Fresno Grizzlies - Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals - for five games at Greater Nevada Field. Following Fresno, the Aces welcome the Oakland Athletics highest affiliate, the Las Vegas Aviators, to town for a four-game set beginning Monday, April 29.

Important Days - The homestand will feature specialty guests on Friday, April 26, as Greater Nevada Field will welcome a number of Miss USA contestants to sing the National Anthem, throw out ceremonial first pitches, and participate in in-game promotions. The Miss USA contestants will also participate in a meet-and-greet in the upstairs bar area prior to the game starting at 5:05 p.m.

On Sunday, April 28, against Fresno, the club will hold its first Youth Baseball Day of the season welcoming Northern Nevada Little Leagues with first pitch slated for 1:05 p.m. The little league players will go through a chalk talk with an Aces player followed by an on-field parade. On Tuesday, April 30, it's Education Day at Greater Nevada Field as the team will welcome various K-12 schools around Northern Nevada with first pitch set for 11:05 a.m.

Silver State Diamond Challenge - When the Aces take on the Las Vegas Aviators from Monday, April 29, - Thursday, May 2, it will mark 2019's first edition of the Silver State Diamond Challenge played between Reno and Las Vegas presented by the Nevada Donor Network. The Silver State Dimond Challenge is a season-long matchup between Las Vegas and Reno with the head-to-head winner ultimately crowned as champions. Las Vegas was victorious a season ago with a 10 and 6 record against. However, Reno won the challenge in 2016 and 2017.

Fresh Flyin' Aviators - This year the S.S.D.C will feature a new look with Las Vegas changing affiliations from the New York Mets to the Oakland Athletics in the offseason. Las Vegas has been on a tear this year out of the gate compiling the best record in the Pacific Coast League thus far with 15 wins to their name. The Aviators feature some of Oakland's top prospects in catcher Sean Murphy, infielders Jorge Mateo, Sheldon Neuse, and outfielders Skye Bolt and Tyler Ramirez. All five players are listed as top 20 prospects in the Oakland A's minor league system according to MLB Pipeline.

Who's Hot? - Kevin Cron holds a .349 batting average with a team leading six home runs, 19 RBI, 15 runs scored and .730 slugging percentage. Cron ranks in the top ten in the Pacific Coast League in the latter four categories. Yasmany Tomas has done a good job protecting Cron in the lineup with respectable numbers of his own batting .310 on the season with five home runs and 14 RBI, good for second on the team. Travis Snider still leads the PCL in batting average at a .426 mark and on-base percentage at .537.

On the mound, Rubby De La Rosa has yet to allow an earned run out of the bullpen in seven appearances over 6.2 innings pitched. Diamondbacks' top pitching prospect, Jon Duplantier, has yet to allow a hit or earned run over 5.2 innings of work in Triple-A. And Aces' closer, Jimmie Sherfy, has racked up three saves this young season increasing his franchise leading total to 50.
