Ontario Reign News Release
ANCHORAGE, AK - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, lost 5-3 to the Alaska Aces in Anchorage on Saturday night.
The Aces led 1-0 on a goal by Wes Goldie before Jordan Morrison smacked a rebound past Alaska goaltender, Gerald Coleman to tie it 1-1 with just under a minute left in the first period.
Alaska controlled play in the second period. Goldie reclaimed the lead for the Aces just 33 seconds into the frame, while Scott Howes and Maxime Tanguay scored 25 seconds apart to give the Aces a 4-1 lead at the half-way point of the game. The fourth Alaska goal brought Beau Erickson into the game to replace Kellen Briggs between the pipes for the Reign.
Ontario came out firing in the third period. Morrison netted his second goal of the contest with a wrist shot over Coleman's blocker after getting behind the Alaska defense. Chaz Johnson pulled the Reign within a goal, as he notched his fourth goal in his last five games to make it 4-3 Aces. With Erickson pulled on the bench for the extra attacker in the closing minute of regulation, Goldie scored an empty-net goal to earn the hat trick and push the Aces to a 5-3 win over the Reign.
Erickson stopped all 23 shots he faced after relieving Briggs who gave up four goals on 23 shots and Coleman won it for Alaska with 16 saves on 19 shots.
