
Aces' Defense Smothers Storm in 82-74 Victory

Palmetto, FL - The Las Vegas Aces stymied the WNBA's most efficient offense for most of the afternoon, Saturday, holding the Seattle Storm to 37.3 shooting from the field and 26.9 percent shooting from three-point range in an 84-72 victory. The win moved the Aces (10-3) a half game behind the Storm (11-3) in the race for the top record in the league.

First Quarter (Las Vegas 19, Seattle 18)

Second Quarter (Las Vegas 45, Seattle 29)
Las Vegas scored 11 of the first 13 points in the quarter to go up 10, 30-20, with 5:57 to go.
Third Quarter (Las Vegas 69, Seattle 52)
Las Vegas' lead vacillated between 14 and 21 points throughout the quarter
Fourth Quarter (Las Vegas 82, Seattle 74)
Las Vegas led by 18, 75-57, with 5:25 remaining, when the Storm rattled off 12 straight points to slice the lead to six, 75-69 with 1:15 on the clock. Seattle eventually cut the Aces' advantage to five, but Laas Vegas made 3 of 4 free throws down the stretch for the final margin of victory.
KEY STATS
Seattle's top-ranked offense shot just 37.3 percent from the field, including 26.9 percent from long distance.
The Aces went 20 for 25 from the free throw line while the Storm went 11 for 24.
Las Vegas outscored Seattle 42 to 32 in the paint.
Las Vegas' bench outscored Seattle's bench, 34 to 5.
Las Vegas turned the ball over 16 times, which Seattle flipped into 8 points. The Storm committed 14, and the Aces turned them into 18 points.
The Aces outscored the Storm 17 to 4 in second chance points.
GAME NOTES
A'ja Wilson scored in double figures for the 13th straight game to start the season, and the 69th time in her 72 games as a pro (23 points). It was also the 8th time this year that she has scored 20 or more points, and the 33rd time in her career. She added a season-high 14 rebounds for her 5th double-double of the season, and the 18th of her career.
Danielle Robinson scored in double figures for the 4th time this season and the 126th time in her career (16 points).
Danielle Robinson's seven assists on the night moved her into a tie with Renee Montgomery for 19th on the WNBA's career assist list. She now has 1140 assists in her career- 17 behind Jasmine Thomas' 1157 in 18th place.
Angel McCoughtry scored in double figures for the 11th game this season, and the 272nd time in her professional career (13 points). She added a career-high tying 14 rebounds for her 1st double-double of the season, and the 20th point-rebound double-double of her career.
The 11 points scored by Seattle in the second quarter, and the 29 points scored in the first half, were the lowest totals for the Storm this season.
The Aces 10-3 start is the best start in the 24-year-history of the franchise through 13 games.
