Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Wilyer Abreu's three-run home run with two outs in the ninth sent the Hooks to a thrilling 7-4 victory over the Missions Thursday night at Whataburger Field.
Corpus Christi, up 2-1 in the series, have won nine of its last 14 games.
San Antonio was staked to a 4-3 lead until Justin Dirden leveled the score with a two-out RBI single in the eighth off Missions closer Angel Felipe.
Felipe needed just seven pitches to record the first two outs in the ninth. Jordan Brewer and Jose Alvarez kept the inning alive with back-to-back walks. Abreu, down in the count 1-2, launched an opposite-field home run over the Goodwill Deck in left field for Corpus Christi's first walk-off blast of the year. It was the first home run allowed by Felipe in 17 appearances with the Missions.
Abreu, homering in back-to-back nights, has gone deep three times in his last nine games.
Lefty Julio Robaina picked up the win after keeping San Antonio off the board over four frames of relief. Robaina struck out seven against three hits and one walk.
Corpus Christi received significant production from the bottom-third of its lineup. Brewer, playing in his second Double-A game, went 2-for-3 with two runs, a double and RBI. Grae Kessinger, 1-for-3 with a walk, scored two runs and Alvarez plated a pair on the day.
The Hooks shoot for a third consecutive win on Friday with Misael Tamarez on the hill. San Antonio counters with Lake Bachar. First pitch is 7:05 as the first 5,000 fans pick up a Jose Altuve ALCS Replica Ring, courtesy of Corpus Christi Medical Center.
