
Eshelman's Compete Game Not Enough as Missions Fall to Hooks

SAN ANTONIO - Despite a complete game performance from Thomas Eshelman, the Corpus Christi Hooks hit two homers in the sixth inning to claim a 2-0 victory. The Hooks pitching staff holds the Missions offense to just three hits.
Thomas Eshelman was the starting pitcher for the Missions. He pitched out of trouble in the bottom of the first inning. Luke Berryhill and Yainer Diaz hit back-to-back singles with one out in the inning. Eshelman recorded a ground out and a strike out to end the inning.
Jaime Melendez was the starting pitcher for the Corpus Christi Hooks. He did not allow his first base hit until the fourth inning when Connor Hollis hit a single. Melendez struck out five batters in five innings of work while allowing two base hits.
The Hooks offense took their lone lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Wilyer Abreu began the inning with a solo homer off of Eshelman. After recording the first out of the inning, Yainer Diaz lifted a solo homer to left field to make it a 2-0 ballgame.
Derek West recorded the win for the Hooks after pitching two scoreless innings. Devin Conn converted his third save attempt after tossing two scoreless innings.

The San Antonio Missions will continue their six-game series with the Corpus Christi Hooks on Thursday, June 9th. Left-hander Jason Blanchard (0-0, 7.71) is scheduled to start for the Missions. Right-hander Adrian Chaidez (2-0, 7.56) is scheduled to start for the Hooks. First pitch is expected at 6:35 p.m. from Whataburger Field.
