
Abreu Drives Home Four in Portland's Seventh Straight Win

Manchester, New Hampshire - Wilyer Abreu drove in four RBI, backing up a strong 7.0 inning start by Brian Van Belle, boosting the Portland Sea Dogs (65-60, 35-21) to a 6-3 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (52-74, 21-35), bringing their win streak to seven games, on Saturday at Delta Dental Stadium.
The Sea Dogs put up the first run of the game in the top of the first against Fisher Cats starter Sem Robberse. David Hamilton led off with a solo homer to right. It was his 11th of the season and gave the Sea Dogs a 1-0 lead.
New Hampshire clawed back in the bottom of the first against Portland starter Brian Van Belle. Zach Britton, Luis De Los Santos, and Davis Schneider collected consecutive hits to load the bases. Orelvis Martinez was hit by a pitch, pushing in a run to tie the game 1-1. Will Robertson grounded into a double play, scoring De Los Santos, and giving the Fisher Cats a 2-1 lead.
Portland jumped back on the scoreboard in the top of the second with Robberse still on the mound. Alex Binelas led off with a single and Nick Northcut reached on a fielder's choice. Two outs later, Wilyer Abreu cleared the bases with a three-run homer, regaining the lead for Portland 4-2.
One run came in to score for the Sea Dogs in the top of the third against Robberse. With two outs, Niko Kavads singled. Binelas doubled to left center, plating Kavadas, extending Portland's lead to 5-2. The Fisher Cats answered in the bottom of the third with Van Belle on the mound. Britton led off with a double, and one out later, came home to score on an error by Hamilton, making it a 5-3 game.
The Sea Dogs plated another run in the top of the fourth inning, chasing Robberse out of the game. With one out, Hamilton walked, stole second base, and took third on a throwing error by Karl Ellison. Abreu lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Hamilton, making it 6-3.
Both teams would go scoreless for the rest of the game. Portland's bullpen held strong for the final two innings. Ryan Zeferjahn tossed 1.0 perfect inning, while Michael Gettys tossed a scoreless ninth, picking up his fourth save and securing a 6-3 Sea Dogs win.
Van Belle (6-4, 4.13 ERA) tossed 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out six in the win. Robberse (0-3, 5.27 ERA) tossed 3.2 innings, surrendering six runs (two earned) on six hits, walking three, and striking out three in the loss.
The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats play the finale of a six-game series on Sunday with a 1:35 PM first pitch at Delta Dental Stadium. Portland's pitcher is to be announced and will face New Hampshire RHP Adam Kloffenstein (1-5, 6.42 ERA).
