Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Tonight's Game

Tonight, the Aberdeen IronBirds take on the Hudson Valley Renegades (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) in game three of a four-game series at Dutchess Stadium. The Renegades swept a double-header from the IronBirds last night. Hudson Valley shut-out Aberdeen 3-0 in game one, and edged out a 5-4 victory in game two. Tonight, the IronBirds will have the right-hander Tyler Wilson on the bump. The 10th-round pick of the Baltimore Orioles in this year's draft, Wilson has not allowed more than two runs in a start this season. He'll go up against left-hander Jacob Partridge.

Record-Setting Losses

The IronBirds have set a new franchise record for losses in a season. The previous record was held by the 2005 IronBirds, who lost 48 games. With two games to go, the 2011 IronBirds have also clinched the franchise record for worst winning percentage.

More Debuts

Right-handed pitchers Jaime Esquivel and Miguel Chalas made their IronBirds debuts yesterday. Esquivel got the start in game one. He allowed just one run on two hits in five innings. He walked four and struck-out eight, taking the loss. Chalas started game two. He also took a loss after allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits in four innings of work. He walked none and struck-out six.

Jimenez's Scoreless Streak

Reliever Enrico Jimenez tossed two scoreless innings in game two of last night's double-header. Jimenez has not allowed a run in his past five appearances (totaling 9.1 innings of work). In fact, Jimenez has allowed just one run since the end of July.

Home Run Drought

The IronBirds have not hit a home run since before the All-Star break. The last IronBirds hitter to homer was Austin Goolsby, who hit a long-ball at home against the Williamsport Crosscutters. Aberdeen's leading home run hitter, Joe Velleggia, has not homered since August 5th.

Scoring Runs

The Ironbirds were held scoreless in game one of last night's double-header. It was the eighth time this season the IronBirds were shutout. Aberdeen has been held to one run or less in four of its last six games.
