Abercrombie Named Player of the Week

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Winnipeg Goldeyes OF Reggie Abercrombie (pictured) has been named this week's Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending August 23.

Abercrombie was 15-for-31 (.484) this week with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBI, helping the Goldeyes to a 4-3 record against Can-Am League opponents. He began his week Monday at the Trois-Rivieres Aigles, going 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, three RBI and three runs scored. The big game allowed Winnipeg to grab a 14-8 win to open the series. After an 0-for-5 night in a 3-2 loss on Tuesday, Abercrombie went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a walk in another 3-2 loss on Wednesday. The Goldeyes salvaged a series split with a 4-2 win on Thursday, and Abercrombie was 2-for-3. The weekend saw Winnipeg head to Ottawa to face the Champions. The Goldeyes took the opener 6-5, and Abercrombie turned in a 2-for-5 game with an RBI. His best performance of the week took place on Saturday as the Goldeyes blanked the Champions 5-0. The Columbus, Ga. resident was 4-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored. He closed out the week on Sunday with a strong 3-for-5 game with two RBI, but the Goldeyes fell 7-6.

Abercrombie is now batting .314 since coming over in a trade from the Sussex County Miners. He has three doubles, a triple and five home runs while driving in 26.

The veteran outfielder is now in his sixth year in the independent ranks after a long affiliated career. Abercrombie played the 2006 season with the then-Florida Marlins, appearing in 111 Major League games and carried a .212 average with 12 doubles, two triples and five home runs. A year later, Abercrombie played in 35 games with the Marlins and hit .197 with three doubles and two home runs. Abercrombie's last taste of the Majors came in 2008, when he played in 34 games with the Houston Astros. Abercrombie hit .309 with five doubles and two home runs in that stint in The Show.

The Goldeyes continue their swing through the Can-Am League tonight, opening a series with the Quebec Capitales. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. Central time at Le Stade Municipal. The series can be viewed live and for free at
