MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis swept a doubleheader from Round Rock Friday night at AutoZone Park winning 5-2 in game one and 5-3 in the night cap.
In the first game Redbirds starter P.J. Walters struck out 13 batters en route to a seven-inning, complete game win. The right-hander scattered four hits while allowing two runs in his third straight victory. He has struck out 27 batters in his last two starts spanning 13 innings. Allen Craig and Mark Hamilton put the âBirds on top in the second inning hitting back-to-back home runs. Shane Robinson padded the club's lead with a two-run single in the fourth and drove in his third run of the game in the sixth. Round Rock starter Yorman Bazardo took the loss allowing five runs on seven hits in a complete game effort.
Three solo homers in the second game delivered a Memphis win with Matt Pagnozzi, Mark Shorey and Jarrett Hoffpauir all going deep. David Freese went 2-for-3 in his return to the Memphis lineup driving in a run in the first inning. Round Rock rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh with former Redbird Brian Esposito hitting a three-run homer. Redbirds starter Oneli Perez earned the win fanning seven over six scoreless innings. Express starter Mark McLemore took the loss giving up three runs on five hits across four innings.
The âBirds welcome Omaha to town tomorrow night with game time scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Evan MacLane gets the nod for the home team against Royals lefty Heath Phillips. Following tomorrow night's game Memphis Wrestling will take over on the field with wrestling legends "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart in the park.
