
Ruiz, Purcey Help 51s Take Down Beavers, 6-1

PORTLAND, Ore. - David Purcey allowed two hits over six innings and Randy Ruiz hit a two-run homer as the Las Vegas 51s beat the Portland Beavers 6-1 in front of 5,064 Thursday night at PGE Park.
Purcey (5-4) surrendered two hits and a run in the first frame before pitching five hitless innings to earn the win.
Buck Coats and Travis Snider each gathered two hits and an RBI, Ruiz drove in two runs with his third-inning blast, and Jason Lane and J.P. Arencibia recorded RBIs for the 51s (51-55).
Val Pascucci finished with the Beavers (46-60) sole RBI, a two-out single in the first frame.
Beavers starter Walter Silva (4-5) took the loss after giving up five runs on five hits in 3 1/3 innings.
Snider followed a leadoff single by Coats with an RBI double in the first to help Las Vegas take the early lead, 1-0.
Craig Stansberry knocked a double and scored on a bloop single by Pascucci as Portland tied the game at one run apiece in the bottom of the first frame.
Kevin Howard led off the second inning with a double, took third on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lane to put Las Vegas up, 2-1.
Ruiz banged a two-run shot in the third inning to extend the 51s lead, 4-1.
Las Vegas took a four-run lead in the fourth after Brian Dopirak singled and advanced to third on two consecutive walks before Coats plated him with an RBI base hit.
The 51s made it 6-1 in the fifth after Arencibia hit a sacrifice fly to score Snider, who tripled earlier in the inning.
The Beavers finish out their four-game series against Las Vegas Friday night. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. (Pacific)
NOTES: Silva left the game in the fourth inning because of an injury ... outfielder Drew Macias threw out Lane, who was coming around from second, at the plate in the fourth inning ... the Beavers recorded 11 strikeouts for the second straight game ... infielder/outfielder Peter Ciofrone took the mound with two outs in the top of the ninth and walked the first batter he faced before forcing Ruiz into a groundout for the final out.
