Oshawa Generals News Release

Friday, Jan. 16 | Kitchener Rangers @ 7:30 P.M.

The Generals head to Kitchener on Friday to take on the Rangers for the second time this season. The last time they met in October, the Generals prevailed in a 4-3 win. The Rangers currently sit fifth in the Midwest Division and seventh in the Western Conference with 40 points in 38 games (16-14-2-6). Brent Pedersen will play in front of his former team for the first time after being acquired by the Oshawa Generals earlier this month. Pedersen and the Generals will have to watch out for Ryan MacInnis who leads the Rangers in points with nine goals and 24 assists in 38 games played. This will be the last time these two teams play each other in the regular season.

Saturday, Jan. 17 | Belleville Bulls @ 7:05 P.M.

Oshawa will stay on the road for their Saturday night game against the Belleville Bulls. This will be their fourth of eight meetings this season, and the Generals look to stay undefeated against the Bulls this year. Jordan Subban, who was drafted in the fourth round, 115th overall by the Vancouver Canucks, is certainly one to keep an eye on. He has tallied 15 goals and 19 assists in 40 games played this season, making him the leading goal scorer for the Bulls. Belleville currently sits third in the East Division and fifth in the Eastern Conference. The two teams have built quite the rivalry this season, which will make it an interesting matchup.

Sunday, Jan. 18 | Barrie Colts @ 6:05 P.M.

The Oshawa Generals are back on home ice this Sunday to take on the Barrie Colts and are looking for their third win over the Colts this season. Sunday's game will be presented by Home Depot, who will be handing out texting gloves and running a skills competition on the concourse; be sure to check them out!

These two teams met for the first time in Oshawa's first game of the season and the Generals came out with the 5-2 win in Barrie. On November 30, Barrie visited the GM Centre and the Generals defeated their opponents 5-3. Generals goals were scored by Dal Colle, Cirelli, Manchurek and Turner. Colts goals were credited to Blandisi and Labanc. The game consisted of a total of 23 penalties, which should make Sunday's game an intense showdown.

The Barrie Colts currently sit first in the Central Division and second in the Eastern Conference, behind the Oshawa Generals. The Colts (24-13-1-1) have 50 points in 39 games played this season. Kevin Labanc and Andrew Mangiapane are two players to look out for this Sunday. Labanc has made an impact this season with 70 points (18 goals, 52 assists) in 39 games played. His 70 points along with his +/- rating of 13 is a clear indication as to why why he was selected 171st overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Mangiapane is not far behind Labanc with 63 points (25 goals, 38 assists) this season. Mangiapane currently carries a free agent status in the NHL but was invited to the Arizona Coyotes camp this past summer. Joseph Blandisi, a sixth round pick of the Colorado Avalanche is another player to keep an eye on with 69 points in 39 games played this season.

The Generals

The Generals (31-6-1-1) continue to occupy the number one spot on the BMO CHL's Top Ten Rankings. The team has made some big trades in recent weeks, which includes acquiring four new additions; Brent Pedersen from the Kitchener Rangers, Michael McCarron and Dakota Mermis from the London Knights, and Matt Mistele from the Plymouth Whalers. The additions add experience and size to the team, along with solid defense. Michael Dal Colle continues to dominate this season with 58 points in 31 games (25 goals, 33 assists). The New York Islanders prospect just came off a 21 game point streak, an impressive feat for this young player. Just behind Dal Colle is Cole Cassels with 48 points in 29 games (15 goals, 33 assists). This weekend will be an important one for the Generals who look to keep things on a high note with three games ahead of them.
