A 15,028 spectacle

January 26, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Indianapolis Ice News Release

The crowd of 15,028 for "Pack the House Night" on Saturday was the largest crowd in Ice CHL history and the largest crowd in the CHL so far this season. It also was the second biggest crowd in Ice franchise history (The 1997 "Pack the House Night" drew 15,275 at Market Square Arena) and the second largest in CHL history (Oklahoma City set the record last year with 16,873 spectators).

ONE DOWN, ONE TO GO: With an assist on Jared Dumba's power play goal late in the third period on Sunday, defenseman Mario Doyon entered the 600-point club for his pro career. The veteran rearguard has amassed 191 goals and 409 assists in 912 career games and currently leads all CHL defensemen in goals (14) and power play goals (9). Doyon's teammate in the back, Bernie John, is knocking on the door as Indy's all-time leading scorer (327 points) is one point back of the significant plateau with 146 goals and 453 assists in 643 career games. John is currently at his customary spot atop the CHL leaderboard for defensemen with 50 points (11G, 39A) on the year.

ANOTHER HAPPY GILMORE: Dave Gilmore is on another one of his scoring tears as the team's first-line center enters this week's play on an eight-game point streak and has at least a goal in six of his last seven games. Gilmore already has an Ice season-best 14-game point streak to his credit this year and leads all Ice players in goals (22) and multiple goal games (5).

DIVISION WARS CONTINUE: After an intense three games in three nights war with the Memphis RiverKings, life doesn't get any easier for the Ice as the Northeast Division-leading Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs come calling for a home and home series this week. Indy, who went 2-1-0 against Memphis last weekend and is 6-4-0 for the year against the "Kings", is 2-3-0 this season against the Mudbugs, but coming off two consecutive losses to its Louisiana counterpart. Jared Dumba has led the Ice in scoring in the season battles with six points (4G, 2A), while Jeff Sanger and Brent Zelenewich each have a win between the pipes. Trevor Buchanan and Jason Campbell have combined for nine points (2G, 7A) to lead the "Bugs," while goaltender Ken Carroll has two of the three wins in net.

PLAYER MORSELS: Jason Baird has 17 points (5G, 12A) in his last 12 games and 29 points (8G, 21A) in his last 19 contests...Jared Dumba is in the midst of a four-game point streak (1G, 5A)... Ryan Carter has six points (2G, 4A) in his last five contests...Jim Shepherd has three points in his first three games with Indianapolis.
