January 26, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
ALBUQUERQUE â The Central Hockey League announced today that New Mexico Scorpions left wing Mike Oliveira has been named the Bauer/Nike CHL Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, Jan. 25. It is the second time this season that Oliveira has received the award, with the first coming on Dec. 1, 2003.
Oliveira, 24, was one of two Scorpions representatives for last Thursday's 2004 Dodge CHL All-Star Game at Tingley Coliseum. He helped the Scorpions to a perfect record this week by recording a goal in all three games and seven points on the weekend.
The 6-foot, 195-pound native of West Lorne, Ontario posted a goal and three assists in Saturday's 6-4 win at Lubbock. He also had a goal and an assist on Peter Ambroziak's winning goal in the final minute of yesterday's 3-2 victory over Bossier-Shreveport. Oliveira also added a goal in Friday's 4-2 win over Tulsa.
"It was good to see Mike return to form this week after a few off games," said Scorpions Head Coach/Assistant General Manager Bill McDonald. "He is going to be an important part of this team in the second half of the season."
The Scorpions are back in action at Tingley Coliseum on Friday, Jan. 30 against the Amarillo Gorillas for Lobo Football Night. Faceoff is 7:05 p.m., and the game can be heard on Sports Radio 610 The Sports Animal beginning at 6:50 p.m. The University of New Mexico football team will be in attendance, and the Scorpions will be wearing special cherry and silver Lobo jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game.
Tickets for all remaining Scorpions home games can be purchased at the Scorpions Team Store or at any TicketMaster outlet, including through charge-by-phone at 505-883-7800 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
