Tulsa Oilers News Release
The Tulsa Oilers went 0-2 last weekend and now stand at 12-19-9, 33 points, fifth place in the CHL's Northwest Division. Tulsa's winless streak has now reached 13 games, tying a team record set back in March 1999. The Oilers trail fourth-place New Mexico by 11 points.
Last weekend, the Oilers concluded a four-game road trip with games in New Mexico on Friday and Amarillo Saturday. Friday night, the Oilers fell behind 3-0 to the Scorpions and couldn't recover, losing 4-2. Tulsa outshot New Mexico 42-31 for the game, but Scorpions goaltender Miguel Beaudry was equal to the task, stopping 40 of the 42. Cam Kuzyk scored his first goal with the Oilers since being acquired from Colorado on January 16th and Aaron Millar also lit the lamp for the Oilers. Rod Branch turned away 27 in defeat.
The next night, the Oilers took on the Amarillo Gorillas for the second straight Saturday. Aaron Millar added his second goal in as many nights, and captain Todd Marcellus netted his 18th marker of the season, but the Oilers fell again, 3-2 to the Gorillas. Rookie netminder Tim Kelleher blocked 24 but took the loss in his first action since December 20th. The loss pushed the Oilers' winless streak to 13 games, tying the team record set in March 1999. Tulsa has not won since blanking Oklahoma City 2-0 on Christmas Day.
Jason Bermingham leads the Oilers with 23 goals and 43 points. Bermingham is tied for 9th in the CHL with 23 goals and 5th in the league with 9 power-play tallies. Jason has scored 6 points in his last 5 outings, and has a team-best +12 rating and 161 shots on goal. Captain Todd Marcellus leads the team with 24 assists, and is second with 42 points. Marcellus also ranks second with a +7 rating and third with 128 shots on goal. Dan Gravelle has scored 3 points in his last 5 games, and ranks third on the team with 15 goals and 31 points. Rookie defenseman Anthony D'Arpino has led the Oilers blueliners this year with 17 points (4G, 13A). In goal, Rod Branch is second in the CHL with 964 saves, and 5th in minutes played with 1786:21. Branch is 11-12-6 in 30 games, with a 2.85 goals against average and a .919 save percentage with one shutout. Rookie Tim Kelleher saw his first action since December 20th last Saturday. In 11 games, Kelleher is 1-7-3 with a 3.25 goals against average and a .883 save percentage.
