Bonnie Drobeck will be enjoying the best night out for a dedicated hockey fan: two tickets to a Memphis RiverKings game followed by a complimentary dinner for two at Bonne Terre restaurant with ‘Kings defenseman Ted Crowley.

Drobeck was the winner in this month's "Dinner Fit For A ‘King" contest on the RiverKings website. Upon entering, participants were asked to pick one player with whom they would like to have dinner.

"I picked Ted because he was an older veteran player and I liked his aggressive playing style," Drobeck said, who plays ice hockey on a regular basis. "I thought it would be cool to talk to him about what it was like to play at another level."

Drobeck said she met Crowley once before, when they were at a restaurant and he had a conversation with her friend about a situation in the woman's life. Drobeck said Crowley, after listening a bit, gave the woman some very good advice. That experience also made her think he would be an interesting person with whom to converse.

"I did the contest just for the fun of it," she said. "I've never won anything. When I found out that my entry was chosen, I was like, ‘Ohmygosh, I won! I can't believe it!'

"I never thought I would win. My first thought when I entered was, ‘Ooooh. Dinner at a really nice place.' Throw in the company of a former Olympian and NHL player, and you can't beat that."

Crowley began his career at Boston College before heading to the St. John's Maple Leafs. He has since played in the IHL, NHL and the DEL (Germany's top hockey league), including time with the Colorado Avalanche and the New York Islanders. Additionally, he was part of the 1994 Olympic team in Lillehammer. He currently provides color commentary for the team's game broadcast while finishing his 25-game suspension.
