Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (October 16) - The Texas Brahmas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) finalized their 2007-2008 roster Wednesday afternoon after announcing the signing of offensive threat, Scott Sheppard.

Sheppard will bring his three years of professional experience to the Brahmas for the regular season opener in Austin at 7:38 PM on Friday, October 19. The right wing has played in the CHL, American Hockey League (AHL) and the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).

In 2004-2005, Sheppard played 58 games with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and recorded 50 points (27 goals, 23 assists). Finding success with the Mudbugs, Sheppard was promoted to play with the Rochester Americans of the AHL for two games.

The following season, Sheppard rejoined the Mudbugs for 38 games, where he averaged a goal a game-leading all Mudbug players. Before reuniting with the Rochester Americans, the Selkirk, Ontario native tallied 57 points (38 goals, 19 assists) for the Mudbugs. He led the team in power play goals with 17. In Rochester, Sheppard played 21 games with 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists).

Prior to taking his game to the professional level, Sheppard played in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for four seasons with the Kitchener Rangers, Ottawa 67's and London Knights. In 262 games, he collected 239 points (91 goals, 148 assists) and only 162 penalty minutes.

Brahmas Head Coach, Dan Wildfong is thrilled about the acquisition of Sheppard, and what it means to the team.

"Sheppard is an outstanding scoring touch for us. He and Blair [Manning, Brahmas forward] have been a dynamic duo in this league, so it is exciting to see them back together again. They will definitely keep the fans on their feet," said Wildfong.

The Brahmas new lineup will open their tenth season this Friday in Austin to face the Austin Ice Bats at 7:38 PM. This will be a monumental step for the Brahmas as they return to the ice after sitting out last season. On Saturday, the Brahmas will swing by Bossier-Shreveport to face their Northeast rival Mudbugs at 7:05 PM.

Under the direction of Head Coach Dan Wildfong and Assistant Coach Forbes MacPherson, the rebranded Texas Brahmas will open the doors to their new home, the NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills, Saturday, October 27 at 7:05 PM against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.

"To simply start from scratch is very exciting," said Brahmas General Manager Mike Barack. "For us to be able to come back after a year's suspension is monumental. Thanks to our newly formed ownership group, we now look forward to a championship caliber team on the ice."
