
Rayz Sign One, Waive Two, Name Captains

The Corpus Christi Rayz appear to have their roster finalized for opening night with one late addition and two departures. On Wednesday, the Rayz announced that they have signed defenseman Evan Stoflet and waived defenseman, Matt Iannetta and goaltender Jay Chrapala. Stoflet joined the Rayz Wednesday morning for practice and is expected to be in the opening night roster on Friday when the team travels to Rio Grande Valley. Corpus Christi also announced their team captain and alternates on Wednesday afternoon. The Rayz return to Corpus Christi on Saturday, October 20th at 7:05pm at the American Bank Center for the 2007-2008 home opener, presented by Citgo. Stoflet, 23, comes to Corpus Christi after spending training camp with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL. The rookie blue liner is making his professional debut this season after a four-year collegiate career at the University of Vermont. The Madison, WI native stands 6'1" and weighs 195 lbs. In 99 games at Vermont, the defensive minded Stoflet scored six goals and registered 14 points, while adding 86 PIM. The addition of Stoflet, along with the departure of Iannetta and Chrapala brings the Rayz roster to 19 active players, which is the CHL maximum for this season. The Rayz must submit their opening season roster to the league on Thursday.
The Rayz also announced their captain for the 2007-2008 season is would be defenseman, Geno Parrish. Parrish, who is returning to Corpus Christi for his second season with the Rayz, is the oldest player on the team and a seven-year veteran. In addition to adding the captain's title, he also serves as the Rayz Player/Assistant Coach. The alternate captains will be last year's team MVP and leading scorer, Justin Quenneville and 2004-2005 team MVP, Jason Baird. Quenneville is back for his second season in Corpus Christi while Baird is the longest tenured man on the Rayz roster, spending his fourth season in Corpus Christi this year.
The Corpus Christi Rayz will begin their 10th Anniversary season on October 19th and return to the American Bank Center for their home opener on Saturday, October 20th at 7:05pm vs. Rio Grande Valley. The Rayz are proud to be celebrating a decade along the Gulf Coast and invite all of South Texas to join in the fun of the 2007-2008 campaign.
