9th Inning Homer Beats Biscuits

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Former Biscuit Jake Jeffries launched a ninth-inning three-run home run off Kirby Yates to help the Jacksonville Suns (19-21) steal the series finale from the Biscuits (19-21) 5-4 Tuesday afternoon at Riverwalk.

The Biscuits entered the ninth up 3-2. After Shawn Bowman flied to center to begin the inning, Yates walked Russell Mitchell and Jeff Dominguez singled. Jeffries then hooked a 1-2 pitch over the right-field wall to give the Suns the decisive punch.

Mike Sheridan drove in Kyeong Kang in the ninth to cut it to one, but A.J. Ramos (2-0) got David Wendt to fly out to the warning track and struck out Brad Coon to finish things off.

Tyler Bortnick led the Biscuits with a 3-4 game, connecting on his first home run of the season in addition to a pair of singles.

The late collapse spoiled a great start by Kyle Lobstein, who held the Suns to a run on three hits over six innings of work in a no-decision.

The Biscuits now begin a five-game set with the Birmingham Barons on Wednesday, with RHP Joe Cruz facing LHP Simon Castro at 7:05.
