Mississippi Braves News Release

Huntsville, AL - Behind an early burst of offense and a gem by David Hale, the Mississippi Braves downed the Huntsville Stars 5-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Joe Davis Stadium. The win gave them a three-games-to-one series victory.

Hale pitched an absolute gem. He allowed just two hits, both singles, and two walks over six innings. He picked up his second win, striking out four on the day. Meanwhile, the Braves provided plenty of run support.

The Braves (17-22) jumped early on Stars starter Hiram Burgos, pitching in his double-A debut. Evan Gattis tripled in Phil Gosselin in the first inning to put the Braves on the board. In the second, Ian Gac doubled to set up back-to-back singles by Todd Cunningham and Cory Harrilchak. Keenan Wiley then doubled to bring in two, staking the Braves to a 4-0 lead. That was more than enough for Hale.

Ian Gac homered to lead off the ninth inning, his fourth of the season and second against the Stars. That came after Anderson De La Rosa scored the lone Huntsville run in the eighth on a wild pitch.

Mississippi has now won back-to-back games and six of the last eight.

The Braves now take an off day on Wednesday before opening a five-game series with the Tennessee Smokies on Thursday night at 7:00 PM CT Trustmark Park. Right-hander Zeke Spruill (3-3, 4.37) toes the rubber for Mississippi against Smokies left-hander Brooks Raley (1-2, 3.50). Listen live at 103.9 WYAB or online at MississippiBraves.com.
