Smokies Win Wild Finale 10-8 over Generals

KODAK, TENN. (MAY 15, 2012) - The Smokies won a seesaw battle Tuesday afternoon, 10-8 over the Generals in front of 7,343 fans at Smokies Park. Each team notched a five-run inning and the two teams combined for six errors and 10 unearned runs. The Generals won three of five in the series and after15 games with the Smokies', Jackson leads the season series, 10-5. Jackson leads Huntsville by a 1/2 game in the Southern League North standings.

The Smokies jumped out to a commanding 5-0 in the second inning. Junior Lake brought in two runs with a double and Logan Watkins, Justin Bour and Jae-Hoon Ha added RBI's in the five-run second.

Jackson rallied and scored a run in the third on an RBI single by Francisco Martinez and two in the fourth, taking advantage of an error and two walks. The Generals trailed 5-3 after four innings.

Jackson continued their rally in the fifth taking advantage of three Smokies errors and pushed across five runs to take an 8-5 lead. The Generals picked up RBI's from Carroll, Martinez and Campbell in the inning. Only one ball hit by Jackson left the infield in the fifth.

Tennessee scored the final five runs of the game with two scoring in the fifth on a 2-run double by Jim Adduci and a solo home run by Justin Bour tied the game at 8-8 in the sixth. Adduci added another RBI double in the seventh and Junior Lake brought in the Smokies 10th run and it was 10-8 Smokies.

Brandon Maurer marked the third straight Generals starter that could not get past the third inning. Maurer allowed five runs (two earned) in two innings, striking out two and walking two. The loss was suffered by Steven Hensley (0-2) who allowed three runs over 2.1 innings of relief. Smokies reliever Casey Weathers picked up the win.

The Generals begin a five-game series Thursday against the Mobile BayBears at Pringles Park, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. CT. LHP Danny Hultzen (3-3, 1.91) will take the mound for Jackson against RHP Trevor Bauer (7-1, 1.68) for Tennessee. Hultzen was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 MLB draft to the Mariners and Bauer was the next pick at No. 3 by the Diamondbacks.
