Suns Rally to Beat Biscuits 5-4

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Suns rallied in the ninth inning for a 5-4 win over the Biscuits on Tuesday afternoon. Jacksonville scored four times in the final two innings to overcome a 3-1 deficit.

Ryan Patterson gave the Suns a 1-0 lead in the first inning with his third home run of the season. The Suns are now 16-2 when scoring the game's first run. Montgomery tied the game 1-1 in the fourth inning when Tyler Bortnick hit his first home run of the season.

In the sixth inning, the Biscuits scored two more times off of Suns starter Omar Poveda, when Omar Luna drove in a run with a ground out and Bortnick knocked in a run with a single to give Montgomery a 3-1 lead.

The Suns cut into the lead in the eighth off of reliever Frank De Los Santos. Curt Smith doubled to lead off the inning, and Jake Smolinski's single drove in Smith to cut the lead to 3-2. In the ninth inning, Jake Jefferies hit a three-run home run to right field to put the Suns in front 5-3. Montgomery scored a run in the bottom half of the ninth but couldn't get the tying run across the plate.

The Suns are now 9-6 in one-run games this season and won for the first time this season when trailing after the seventh inning (1-16). Jacksonville opens a five game series against Pensacola on Thursday night at the Baseball Grounds with Jose Alvarez (1-1, 3.90) taking the hill for his seventh start of the season. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:35PM ET.
