LOWELL, MA --- The Vermont Lake Monsters, who lead the New York-Penn League in walks, broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth inning with the help of two walks and a Kevin Keyes sacrifice fly for a 2-1 victory over the Lowell Spinners on Monday night at LeLecheur Park.

Ronnie LaBrie led off the eighth with a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and then moved to third on a passed ball as David Freitas walked.. Keyes then smacked a 2-0 pitch deep to deep center for the go ahead sacrifice fly that scored LaBrie.

Vermont had jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first as Chad Mozingo led off with a single, advanced to second on a Blake Kelso bunt single and then scored on back-to-back groundball forceouts from LaBrie and Freitas. The RBI groundout increased Freitas' team-high RBI to 38.

Taylor Jordan became the fifth Lake Monsters starting pitcher overall, and the first since July 20th, to toss six innings in a start. He allowed just one run, a leadoff home run to Bryan Brentz in the fifth inning, on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts in the no-decision.

The Spinners put runners on first and third with one out in the sixth when Jordan got Kolbrin Vitek to flyout to right field and Wade Moore gunned down Felix Sanchez at the plate trying to score for the double play.

Ryan Demmin (2-1) tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief for the Lake Monsters for the win, while Neil Holland one walk and three strikeouts over the final 1 1/3 innings for the save. It was Holland's team-high third save of the season, but first since July 13th at State College.

The Lake Monsters had just six hits in the win, but were issued six walks by Spinner pitchers to incease its league-leading total to 272. Vermont's win coupled with Tri-City's 10-2 win at Connecticut keeps the Lake Monsters one game in front of the ValleyCats for first-place in the Stedler Division, while the Tigers fall 2 2/1 games behind with the loss.

Vermont (31-28) will wrap up the quick two-game trip to Lowell (19-43) on Tuesday night before returning home for its final three regular-season games of the season at historic Centennial Field. The three-game series against Connecticut begins on Wednesday night with "Hot Dog Heaven" 25-cent hot dogs all night long.
