87ers Hold off Maine 126-125 in Home Finale

NEWARK, DE - MARCH 13, 2018 - The Delaware 87ers (15-32) topped the Maine Red Claws (17-29) in a thriller, 126-125. The Sevens won their final game ever at the Bob Carpenter Center and took the season series from Maine 2-1. Delaware was led by another monster night from Christian Wood, who scored 46 points for the second consecutive game and notched his seventh straight double-double. Though the Sevens made it interesting at the end, they pulled out a feel-good victory nonetheless.

Here are three takeaways from the 87ers' final game against Maine this season:

Christian Wood owned this game

Wood's last two games: 92 points, 30 rebounds, three blocks, 33-48 from the field, 6-12 on three-balls and 20-23 from the line.

He simply dominated from the start, scoring 24 points in the first half and 22 in the final two quarters. Wood has scored 23, 23, 24 and 22 points in each of his last four halves. At his best, Wood is as good as there is in this league. Here's hoping he finds a long-term home in the NBA soon.

The Sevens cut down on their turnovers and won because of it

Delaware pulled out an eight-point win despite turning the ball over 19 times against Long Island last Sunday. It was a different story on Tuesday, as the 87ers only coughed up the rock on 13 occasions. Delaware took care of the ball in crucial spots and played with enough confidence to make daring passes that didn't feel forced. This team's net rating proves it's better than its record and so does watching them when they're clicking. What a great way to exit the Bob Carpenter Center.

Delaware's bench came up big again

The Sevens got 32 points from three reserves: Devin Robinson (14), Kyle Randall (10) and Shannon Brown (8). Robinson was his usual versatile and efficient self, shooting 6-10 from the field, while Randall drilled two clutch free throws at the end of the game to give the 87ers an insurmountable four-point lead. While Brown missed two free throws on the possession before Randall made his, the veteran was a pest defensively and came up with some timely buckets. In all, six 87ers reached double figures out of the nine who played.

The 87ers final three games are on the road, beginning with Friday's trip to Greensboro to take on the Swarm. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
