7-Run 7th Helps Laredo Take Game 3

AMARILLO, Texas - The AirHogs dropped Game 3 of their 4-game Amarillo set with the Laredo Lemurs 8-3 Saturday evening. The Lemurs exploded for 8 hits and 7 runs in the top of the 7th to flip a 3-1 deficit into an 8-3 lead.

Matt Shepherd started for the AirHogs. He surrendered only 1 run and stranded 7 over his first 6 frames. Drew Martinez got to him in the 2nd for an RBI fielder's choice, but Shepherd stranded the bases loaded to keep the damage to just 1 early.

Nick Akins tied the game in the bottom of the 2nd with a home run to left off Laredo starter Danny Moskovits. The blast was the 3rd of the season for Akins.

In the 4th, Cody Lenahan went deep for a 2-run blast off Moskovits to make it 3-1 AirHogs. Akins came in for the 2nd time on Lenahan's 4th homer of the season.

Luis Pollorena took over for Laredo on the mound after Lenahan's home run and would hold the AirHogs scoreless over the next 2 â..." frames.

In the top of the 7th, Laredo tagged Shepherd for 4 straight hits, starting with a leadoff double by JD Pulfer. They tagged Tyler Ihrig for 4 more hits, 3 of them for extra bases, to take an 8-3 they would not relinquish.

Shepherd suffered his 3rd loss, while Pollorena picked up his 2nd win. The AirHogs (20-29) and the Lemurs (28-21) conclude the series tomorrow at 2:05 pm. RHP Cody Hebner is expected to start for the AirHogs vs. RHP Ryan Beckman for Laredo.
