Ottawa 67's News Release
The Ottawa 67's have drafted Swiss goaltender Lukas Flueler with the 21st overall pick in the 2006 CHL Import Draft. Flueler is seventeen years old and is eligible for the 2007 NHL Entry Draft next June. A large goalie listed at 6.03" and 190 lbs., Flueler was the first goaltender taken in today's draft.
Flueler is a native of Kloten, Switzerland and played last season with the club team Kloten Flyers but also gained valuable international experience with the U18 Swiss team as well as the 2006 Viking Cup tournament in Alberta.
"We are very happy to have Lukas join our team. He will help form a strong goaltending duo which is needed in our league and will help give us the depth we are looking for" stated Brian Kilrea shortly after drafting the Swiss goalie.
Flueler's agent, Alan Walsh added, "Lukas feels his development for the NHL will be furthered by his joining the 67's and is looking forward to playing in Ottawa."
