Ottawa 67's News Release
Thursday September 24, 2009 (Ottawa, ON): The Ottawa 67's today announced their player leadership group for the coming season. The team will have Co-Captains this year-Julien Demers and Tyler Cuma-supported by Alternates Thomas Nesbitt and Corey Cowick. For the first half of the season, Cuma will wear the captain's "C" at home and Demers will wear it on the road, then they'll switch at the halfway point.
"I talked with Killer (GM Brian Kilrea), others in the organization and the players, and we all felt we had two strong leaders in Julien and Tyler, so why make a choice between the two?" said Head Coach, Chris Byrne. "As far as the alternate's go, Thomas is a 4-year player who works hard and excels on the ice, helps the younger players and is great in the room. Similar story with Corey. He's a force to reckon with on the ice, great in the room and a real ambassador for the team on school visits and other appearances."
Corey Cowick injured his shoulder in the 67's first exhibition game and underwent surgery shortly thereafter. He is expected to be ready to return to the lineup in the second half of the season.
