Erie Otters News Release
Six unanswered goals by the Windsor Spitfires were the catalyst in the Erie Otters' first regulation loss of the season, an 8-3 decision Friday night in front of 6,112 at WFCU Centre.
Andrew Yogan started the scoring for Erie with a power play goal 2:35 into the game. Yogan ripped a shot from the left circle that went over the glove hand of Spitfires goaltender Josh Unice for his third goal of the season. Mitch Gaulton received an assist, giving him a point in all three Otters games this season.
Scott Timmins tied the game for the Spitfires at 5:28, though the Otters broke the tie 44 seconds later. Zack Torquato intercepted a pass at the red line and found a streaking Anthony Luciani, who fired a shot from the top of the left circle past Unice for his third goal of the season.
The Spitfires came back to tie the game at the 9:23 mark with a goal by Justin Shugg, but Luciani would again break the tie with his second goal of the game. Matthew Paton camped behind the net and set up Luciani in front for the easy tap in to give Erie at 3-2 lead into the first intermission.
The second period wouldn't be as successful for the Otters, as the Spitfires rallied with four unanswered goals, including a stretch of three goals in 2:31 to take a 6-3 lead into the third period. Shugg completed his hat trick in the period, while Austin Watson and Richard Panik scored the other Windsor goals.
Windsor completed the scoring barrage with two more in the third, as Panik added his second and Michael Whaley potted another with 12 seconds remaining. The Spitfires outshot the Otters in the game, 54-36.
The Otters continue their road trip Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. tilt against the Sarnia Sting. Fans can listen to the game on Fox Sports Radio 1330AM, The Fan or on ottershockey.com, with the pre-game show starting at 7:15.
