67's Pitch Shutout
March 7, 2009 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
Your Ottawa 67's first goal, less than one-and-a-half minutes into the first period, set the tone for the whole game. Five minutes later, they scored three more goals - all within three minutes! The team was ahead 4-0, with only six shots on goal and would end up closing the first period ahead of the Colts 5-0.
Though Barrie seemed to dominate the puck in the second period (with three goals scored), your 67's came out of this very special Friday night victorious, with a 6-3 final score.
This game was dedicated to Bert O'Brien and celebrating his 22 seasons behind the bench as assistant head coach. Bert was honoured in a special ceremony before the game. One of his players from South Ottawa, Bill McAndrew, former 67's captain and current Ottawa Senator Brendan Bell, Ottawa Senators' President Roy Mlaker, Team owner Jeff Hunt, Mayor Larry O'Brien, and Bert's wife of 41 years, Cathy all took part in the ceremony that marked March 6, 2009 as Bert O'Brien Day in Ottawa.
Bert's touching speech was well-received with a standing ovation, and an extra loud cheer when he thanked both his wife Cathy and Brian Kilrea, amoung others.
Trinity Development Group aligned with United Way to distribute 67's tickets under the 'United Way Community Ticket Program.' They've given thousands of area kids and families the change to have a fun night at the game. Both organizations were recognized with tonight's ceremonial puck drop.
We would like to remind you that next weekend is Killer's last regular season weekend as head coach. We hope you join us as we honour Brian Kilrea's time with team, on March 15.
We also hope to see you again, or for the first time, this Sunday afternoon when the Sudbury Wolves visit the Civic Centre.
