67's Drop Playoff Opener
March 21, 2009 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
If pictures really say a thousand words, the picture above says it all: today's game ended with a disappointing 5-3 loss to the Ice Dogs, giving them the 1-0 series lead.
It was a close game by all accounts. The Ice Dogs scored early, just 51 seconds into the first period, and the 67's answered with two goals of their own - ending the first period 2-1.
The second period belonged to Niagara. Cowick's goal about half way through the second gave the 67's the lead, but Niagara would score 2 more times to take the period 4-3.
The third period got off to a rocky start - What would have been Cowick's second goal of the night was called a 'no goal', and that call stood after the official review. After some exciting close calls, with under a minute left in the game, Perugini watched - from the bench - as the Ice Dogs last shot slid into the net, ending the game 5-3.
Tonight's game was sponsored by Hummingbird Medispa, and they gave away gift certificates to everyone who joined us tonight. Thanks to them, fans can overcome tonight's tension with a manicure, pedicure, or half-hour massage!
Tonight was also the chance for fans to meet Jubilee Fine Jewellers' diamond give-away winner. As you may remember, Jubilee Fine Jewellers gave away 1,000 diamond look-alikes at the arena on February 13 - and the winner was with us tonight. Congratulations Leanna!
During the intermission two contestants got to battle it out in a equipment race. Both contestants had to race from goal line to goal line, and back to centre ice while putting on hockey gear. (pictured below) Fans were amused but the contestants got the last laugh: they both won movie passes!
The 67's next game is this Sunday at 2 p.m. We hope you will join us then for Killer's last charge to the Memorial Cup. We'll see you again, or for the first time, this Sunday!
