
Majors Take Game 2, Beat Colts 7-4

Barrie ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors made their way over to the Barrie Molson Centre tonight in Game #2 of the opening round of the playoffs against the Colts. The game certainly saw a heated exchange of tallies between both squads and the Majors emerged victorious, defeating the home team 7-4.
Majors rookie forward Devante Smith-Pelly and forward Jared Gomes were impressive, as each collected three points (a goal and two assists), to contribute to the win. Mississauga now leads the series, 2-0.
Dustin Ekelman kicked off the action when he produced the opening goal of the contest at 11:40 to put the Mississauga squad up 1-0. The assists had gone to Rob Flick and Cameron Gaunce.
Devante Smith-Pelly put the puck into Barrie's net 4:19 into the 2nd period and gave the Majors a 2-0 lead. Jared Gomes got the lone assist. However, Taylor Carnevale and Darren Archibald each connected at 5:23 and at 9:36 to knot things up for the Colts. Ryan Gottschalk and Matt Stanisz were the helpers. The Majors were back on the board when Jordan Mayer capitalized on a man-advantage with only 34 seconds remaining in the frame to make it 3-2, heading into intermission. Brett Flemming provided the feed.
Then, Mississauga doubled up the Colts 4-2 early in the 3rd period when Casey Cizikas produced a marker at 3:14 with help from Smith-Pelly and Gomes. But Josh Brittain's tally for Barrie at 4:28 quickly made it 4-3. The assists went to Archibald and Alex Hutchings. The Colts battled back, with Colin Behenna's goal coming shortly after at 5:32, to tie the contest. Daniel Michalsky got the sole assist.
As the minutes of the final stanza winded down, Mississauga got three consecutive tallies to put the game away, 7-4. Cizikas and Mayer each scored at 16:34 and at 17:22 while Smith-Pelly, David Corrente, William Wallén and Corey Bureau were the helpers. With only 21 seconds left, Gomes' empty net marker sealed the deal for the Majors tonight.
Majors rookie goalie JP Anderson started in net tonight and made 29 saves, while Michael Hutchinson stopped 42 shots for the Colts. Mississauga went 1 for 5 on the power-play, while Barrie finished 0 for 5. Cizikas (1st), Smith-Pelly (2nd) and Archibald (3rd) were the stars of the game.
