66ers Win Nail Biter

Inland Empire (39-52, 8-13) defeated the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (46-45, 9-12) 5-4 in a late inning nail biter. 66ers first baseman C.J. Cron hit the game-winning RBI on a sacrifice fly in the top of the 9th. Cron finished the night going 2-for-4 and now has 74 RBIs on the season to lead the California League.

The 66ers offense struck early once again as shortstop Rolando Gomez hit an RBI single with the bases loaded in the initial frame. Gomez now has 25 RBIs on the year. Center fielder Brennan Gowens contributed to the offense as well as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Gowens now has four RBIs in his last two games. Left fielder Ryan Jones also had a good night at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

66ers starter Manny Correa pitched a quality start as he went seven innings, giving up two earned runs, striking out six and walking two. Correa finished the game with a no decision as the 66ers bullpen allowed the Quakes to knot the game at four all in the 8th inning. Quakes starter Jon Michael Redding only lasted 5 2/3 innings, giving up 4 earned runs and 11 hits. 66ers reliever Daniel Tillman pitched two scoreless innings to earn his first win of the year to improve to 1-1.

The 66ers look for the series sweep against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at the Epicenter tomorrow at 7:05 pm.
