Ethier Sparks Rally, But Quakes Fall in Ninth

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - A ninth-inning run for the Inland Empire 66ers snapped a 4-4 tie and sent them to their second straight win, a 5-4 victory over the Quakes on Thursday night, in front of 4,828 at The Epicenter.

Andre Ethier's RBI groundout helped spark a four-run comeback for Rancho, as the Quakes rallied from a 4-0 deficit, before falling in the ninth.

Ethier, who completed his two-game rehab assignment with the Quakes on Thursday evening, finished the game at 0-for-2 with a walk, but drove in Leon Landry with a run-scoring ground ball in the sixth, as the Quakes made it 4-1. Ethier went 0-for-4 in five total plate appearances over two games.

Scott Wingo singled home a run in the seventh off 66ers' starter Manaurys Correa, making it 4-2.

The Quakes picked up a pair of runs to tie the game in the eighth, getting two off Manny Flores. Leon Landry scored on a passed ball and then Bobby Coyle came through with an RBI single, plating Joc Pederson to tie the game at 4-4.

With Coyle at first base and no outs, Inland Empire went to the bullpen and got Daniel Tillman, who settled down the Quakes' rally and sent the game to the ninth, where the 66ers would take the lead for good.

Quakes' closer Eric Eadington (1-1) surrendered a lead-off single to Drew Heid, who eventually scored on a C.J. Cron sac fly, putting the 66ers in front at 5-4.

Rancho's Steve Domecus reached to open the ninth inning, as Tillman (1-1) hit him with a pitch, but with Domecus at third base and two outs, Landry struck out to end the game, giving the Sixers their second straight win in the series.

Rancho (9-12, 46-45) will send Brandon Martinez (2-1) to the mound on Friday night, as they look to avoid the three-game sweep. The 66ers will go with lefty Ryan Crowley (1-7).
