Tulsa 66ers News Release

Tulsa, Okla., November 5, 2009 - The Tulsa 66ers selected the first ever player to jump from high school to the NBA Development League, when they chose 6-8 forward Latavious Williams from Christian Life Academy (Tx.) in the first round of the 2009 NBA D-League Draft on Thursday.

With their second round selection, the 66ers chose guard Mustafa Shakur, who started all but two games in four years at the University of Arizona, and was named to the 2007 PAC 10 Honorable Mention team. Shakur spent last season playing in Spain and Greece, and was recently with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Guard Cecil Brown was selected in the third round by the 66ers, with the 48th overall selection. Brown played professionally in France last season, averaging 15.4 points per contest. The UC Santa Barbara standout played for the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA D-League in 2007-08, averaging 12.4 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. He was named to the Second Team All-Big West Squad during his junior season at UCSB.

The 66ers tallest selection came in the fourth round, as 7-1 center Jeral Davis from Talladega College (Ala.) was taken with the 49th overall selection. Davis averaged 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest during his senior campaign last year. In the fifth round, the 66ers selected 6-5 guard Mitchell Johnson from Jarvis Christian (Tx.), who was followed by former BYU guard Keena Young in the sixth round. Young, who was the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year in 2007, has played overseas the past two seasons.

Adam McCoy, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, was picked in the seventh round after averaging 8.7 points and 1.7 rebounds last season at North Texas and an impressive showing at the 66ers local player tryout. Tulsa rounded out their selections with Maryland-Eastern Shore's Tim Parham, who averaged 14.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in eight games with a Turkish club last season.

The eight players selected will join returning, allocation, and tryout invitees at the 2009 66ers training camp, set to start on Nov. 14. The 2009-10 season tips off at home with a back-to-back against the Utah Flash on Nov. 27 and 28 at the Tulsa Convention Center.
