Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA- The Lake Elsinore Storm held the Inland Empire 66ers down in key spots as part of its 4-2 win at San Manuel Stadium on Monday night. The loss was Inland Empire's fifth in a row while Lake Elsinore got over .500 on the year at 48-47 and 16-9 in the Cal League's second half. The Storm are on a season-best seven-game winning streak.

Each club scored twice in the first but Lake Elsinore took the lead in the second when Edwin Moreno tagged a solo homer off the video board in right against Inland Empire (32-63, 9-16) starter Jeremy Rhoades (3-9). It was Moreno's second homer of the series to go along with three triples. The Storm added an insurance run in the sixth on Luis Urias' RBI double. It was the 19-year-old's second double of the night and his third hit. He now leads the California League with a .331 average.

The Sixers put two men on in the ninth with one out on back-to-back singles from Taylor Ward and Zach Houchins but Storm reliever Phil Maton got the final two outs on a line out and a strikeout to notch his fifth save of the year. Storm starter Chris Huffman was credited with the win as he went five frames allowing one earned run with three Ks and a walk. Houchins and Ayendy Perez had multi-hit games for the Sixers and David Fletcher extended his hitting-streak to 10 games. Despite the tight, low-scoring appearance the contest took three hours and 20 minutes and witnessed eight pitchers combine to throw 304 pitches.

The series concludes Tuesday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com and 1570 AM KPRO.
