Inland Empire 66ers News Release
Visalia, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers crushed the Visalia Rawhide 18-8 on Sunday at Recreation Park and secured a three-games-to-one series win as the club set a season-high in runs scored and knocked a team-best eight doubles. On a night of offensive standouts, Caleb Adams stood tall with a five-hit game collecting two doubles, two singles and a triple. Fellow University of Louisiana Lafayette alum Michael Strentz had four hits for the Sixers including three doubles.
66ers (56-55, 21-20) starter Jeremy Rhoades (4-1) allowed solo homers to Kevin Cron (22) and Mitch Haniger (10) but struck out nine batters through five innings. Inland Empire built its lead against Rawhide starter Ryan Doran (7-2) as the righty allowed five runs in five frames. The 66ers then tagged reliever Johnny Shuttlesworth for four runs in the sixth capped by Eric Aguilera's towering three-run homer to right field. It was his 14th homer of the season. The Cary, IL native finished with five RBI running his total to 81.
Leading 10-5, the 66ers blew the game open in the ninth as the 66ers had their biggest inning of the season by scoring eight runs. Inland Empire slugged nine hits in the frame to put the game out of reach.
Every player for the 66ers had a hit in the contest and only one Rawhide player went without one as well. Adams, a Texarkana, TX native finished the game five-for-six with four RBI and three runs scored; he's only the third player to have five hits in a Cal League game in 2015. His fellow Rajin' Cajun Strentz drilled three doubles and a single. Mike Fish and Roberto Baldoquin each had three hits. Trevor Foss tossed 2.2 scoreless innings in relief Rhoades.
The win was Inland Empire's third in a row. The 66ers are now 5-3 versus Visalia (68-45, 26-17). The series win marked the Sixers first four-game series win since the season-opening set versus the Stockton Ports.
The Sixers open a series against Lancaster on Wednesday at 7:05 pm. It can be heard live at 66ers.com.
