Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Stockton, CA - Rancho Cucamonga's offensive woes continued on Sunday evening, as the Stockton Ports blanked the Quakes for a second straight night, taking Sunday's series-finale by a final of 4-0 at Banner Island Ballpark.
After being held to just two hits in Saturday's loss, the Quakes mustered just one hit on Sunday evening, getting shut out for the eighth time this season.
Jake Nottingham, who drove in the only run of the game on Saturday, had another big night on Sunday, as he drove in a pair, helping the Ports win three of four in the series.
Stockton starter Matt Stalcup (2-3) was brilliant, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out six, over 6 1/3 innings of scoreless work. The only hit allowed by the right-hander was a one-out single by Paul Hoenecke in the second.
The Ports got a run in the first off of Johnathan Richy, as Nottingham doubled home Brett Vertigan with two outs to put the Ports in front, 1-0.
Richy got touched for another run in the fourth, as Vertigan got him for a two-out single, scoring Trent Gilbert to make it 2-0. Vertigan would be the final batter that Richy (9-5) faced, as he was removed with two outs in the fourth.
Kyle Hooper got touched for a pair of runs in the seventh, including an RBI single by Nottingham, helping Stockton to take a four-run advantage.
Rancho's ninth didn't have much sizzle against Stockton reliever Joel Seddon. Delvis Morales walked to open the inning, then stole second base. Seddon rebounded to retire the final three hitters though, getting Cody Bellinger to line out to center field to end the contest.
The Quakes (21-21, 62-50) will get a day off on Monday, before returning to action on Tuesday in Adelanto, as they face the High Desert Mavericks in a four-game set. Tuesday's series-opener will feature Quakes' right-hander Scott Barlow (4-2) against Mavs' lefty Luis Parra (2-4) at 7:05pm.
After this current eight-game road trip, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Friday, August 14th, taking on the Lake Elsinore Storm in the opening game of a six-game home stand. Friday the 14th is another Family RV $1 Family Feast, as fans can enjoy hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches throughout the night for just one dollar each. Tickets are available online at rcquakes.com or by calling (909) 481-5000.
