6-4 win sends Dillas to postseason

AMARILLO, TX - Dillas starter Taylor Allen went eight strong innings and allowed only two runs against the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings for a 6-4 victory on Tuesday night in front of 7,092 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
The win assures the Dillas a spot in the United League playoffs.
Allen (5-3) allowed only five hits and struck out seven in the effort. Whitewings starter Juan Peralta (2-4) got the loss, allowing nine hits and two earned runs in six inning of work. Andy Noonan got his fifth save of the season, finishing off the ninth inning.
Amarillo took an early lead as Keanon Simon singled, went to second on an error, stole third and scored on a Carlos Figueroa RBI single. They added one more in the third as Terrance McClain singled, went to second on a walk and scored on an Andrew Wong RBI single for a 2-0 lead.
The Dillas pushed across three unearned runs in the fifth for a five-run advantage. The Whitewings scored their first runs in the fifth as Brian Nichols doubled, followed by a Juan Melo RBI triple and a Welinson Baez sacrifice fly for a 5-2 deficit.
Amarillo added another run in the seventh as McClain singled, stole second, went to third on a groundout and scored on an Wong sacrifice fly for a 6-2 advantage.
Allen allowed only three runners on base after the two runs in the fifth. Two runs came across in the ninth, but Noonan finished off the remaining Whitewings in the ninth, giving the Dillas a playoff berth and a 6-2 win.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 42-31, while the Whitewings fall to 35-39. Wednesday, Amarillo will host Rio Grande Valley for the game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:55pm on AudioSportsOnline.net. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
