5-3 Win Gives Trenton Best Start In Franchise History

(Trenton, NJ)- Justin Christian's two-out, two-run single in the 7th Inning capped a rally that gave the Trenton Thunder a 5-3 win over Connecticut on Tuesday and their best start after 15 games in franchise history.

Trenton (13-2) played from behind most of the night. Connecticut (5-9) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 2nd Inning. 3B Pat Dobson delivered an RBI single for the first run followed later by an RBI double from CF Alex Requena. The Thunder got a run back in the bottom half as Christian tripled and scored on a ground out. The Defenders lead went to 3-1 off Trenton starter Jeff Marquez in the 3rd Inning. C Todd Jennings singled home 1B Carlos Sosa, who had doubled.

Marquez allowed three runs (two earned) in six innings, but didn;t figure in the decision. Trailing 3-1, Trenton got a run back on a solo homer by RF Matt Carson, his 3rd of the season. The Thunder then tied the game at 3-3 in the 6th Inning as Christian doubled and scored on a wild pitch. Christian was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI on the night.

Trenton then loaded the bases against reliever Alex Hinshaw in the seventh before Christian singled home two runs for the lead. Thunder reliever Edwar Ramirez worked two scoreless innings for the win. Ramirez (3-0) is now tied for the league lead in wins. Kevin Whelan tossed a scoreless 9th Inning for the save.

The 1999 Thunder team, a Red Sox affilaite, had the previous best record after 15 games (12-3) before this year.
