B-Mets Drop Fifth Straight

April 24, 2007 - Eastern League (EL1)
Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Caleb Stewart had a pair of hits and Miguel Negron drove in a run, but the Binghamton Mets fell to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3-1 at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium Tuesday. The loss is Binghamton's fifth straight, as they fell to 1-5 on their eight-game road trip.

New Hampshire (9-5) got on the board in the first when Dustin Majewski led off with a single, moved to second on a Kevin Mulvey balk and to third on a wild pitch before scoring on Robinzon Diaz's groundout.

The Fisher Cats got a pair of unearned runs in the fourth. Sergio Santos started the rally with a double before Mulvey (1-3) hit Ryan Klosterman with a pitch. Aaron Mathews then hit a comebacker that Mulvey threw into centerfield for an error, allowing Santos to score. David Smith made it 3-0 when he drove home Klosterman with a sacrifice fly.

Binghamton (3-9) was held without a baserunner for the first five innings by New Hampshire starter Jesse Litsch (2-1), who was perfect until Stewart led off the sixth with single. The B-Mets also had the leadoff man on in the seventh and eighth, but failed to score.

Nic Jackson led off the ninth with a double off reliever Jordan DeJong before moving to third on Mark Kiger's groundout. Negron scored Jackson with a base hit to left. However, Jo Matumoto earned his first save of the year by striking out Mike Carp and Brett Harper to end the game.

Wednesday, the B-Mets play the third game of their four-game series at New Hampshire. Jose Sanchez (0-0, 2.00) gets the start for the B-Mets against Mike MacDonald (3-0, 2.45) of New Hampshire. Game time is 6:35 from Merchantsauto.com Stadium with the radio broadcast starting at 6:20 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Notes: the B-Mets committed a season-high-tying four errors...Mulvey has gone exactly five innings in each of his last three starts...New Hampshire's two lefthanded relievers, Matumoto and Jesse Carlson struck out all four hitters they faced...Majewski and Santos accounted for all four of New Hampshire's hits, with two apiece.
