January 5, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Maine Celtics News Release

PORTLAND, ME - The story is legend in Maine. Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll himself, was scheduled to appear at the Cumberland County Civic Center on August 17-18, 1977. The concerts, which were to be among the biggest to ever come to Portland, never happened. Now, more than thirty years after Elvis' untimely death, The King will finally make his long awaited Maine appearance.

The Maine Red Claws will celebrate what would have been Elvis Presley's 75th birthday this Friday, January 8 during their game vs. the Springfield Armor with Elvis tribute artist Johnny Thompson performing at halftime. Thompson, considered by many to be one of the top Elvis impersonators, was the 2007 Images of the King World Champion. He appeared in Carrie Underwood's "Last Name" video and also starred in the "Almost Elvis" and "The Men who would be King" documentaries. Thompson recently played The King in a TV series on Sci Fi Channel called "The Chronicle" and co-starred on "Get Golf" with John O'Hurley, who starred as J. Peterman on Seinfeld, on USA Network. In 2005 he hosted the MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet for TRL and also appeared on "TRL,Viva La Bam, One Bad Trip, 24/7 and The Surreal Life".

Fans who dress like The King will be invited down onto the parquet during the game to participate in on court promotion.

RED CLAWS TO APPEAR ON NATIONAL TV: The Maine Red Claws game on April 3 will be broadcasted live on the VERSUS network, one of sixteen NBA D-League games the network will carry this season. April 3 will be the Red Claws final regular season game of 2009-10 and will feature a conference match-up with the Erie BayHawks.
