Jam Acquires Daniels, Releases Hawkins

(Bakersfield, Calif. - January 5, 2010) - The Bakersfield Jam announced late Monday that the team has acquired former University of Rhode Island forward Will Daniels and released forward Justin Hawkins due to injury.
Daniels spent last season playing in Greece's A1 league for Kavala/Panorama, where he averaged 13.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, shooting 46.8% from the field and 63.4% from the free throw line. In his 2007-08 senior season at Rhode Island, Daniels scored 18.6 points on 50.1% shooting to go with 6.5 rebounds, a block and a steal.
"Will is a very promising young player," said Bakersfield head coach Will Voigt. "He will fit right in with our culture of hard work and development."
Daniels is expected to join the Jam for the team's Saturday home game against the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
Hawkins - who has averaged 10.9 points and 3.9 rebounds in 15 games with the Jam (seven starts) - was released after sustaining a mild MCL sprain.
