2009 WHL Championship Schedule

Kelowna, BC: The Kelowna Rockets are pleased to announce dates for the 2009 Western Hockey League Championship, the battle for the Ed Chynoweth Cup.

After winning the Western Conference Championship in six games on Monday night, the Rockets move onto the Western Hockey Championship. They will face the Calgary Hitmen, who finished as the top team in the Canadian Hockey League.

The following is the schedule for the Western Hockey League Championship:

Friday May 1 @ Calgary @ 7:30 pm

Saturday May 2 @ Calgary @ 7:00 pm

Monday May 4 @ Kelowna @ 7:00 pm

Wednesday May 6 @ Kelowna @ 7:00 pm

Thursday May 7 @ Calgary @ 7:00 pm*

Saturday May 9 @ Kelowna @ 7:00 pm *

Monday May 11 @ Calgary @ 7:00 pm *

The Rockets are 12-4 in the 2009 WHL Playoffs, with series wins over Kamloops, Tri-City and Vancouver. The Hitmen are undefeated with series sweeps over Edmonton, Lethbridge and Brandon.

All games of the 2009 WHL Championship will be broadcasted on Shaw TV.

Rockets vs. Hitmen - Seasonal series 1-1

Both games between the Rockets and Hitmen were in Calgary at the Saddle Dome during the regular season. The Hitmen were 4-3 winners in December, while the Rockets won 2-1 in February.

Overall the Rockets are 2-0 in the Western Hockey League Championship in team history. Kelowna beat the Red Deer Rebels in the 2003 playoffs 4-2 and won the Ed Chynoweth Cup in 2005 defeating Brandon 4-1.
