12-Inning Win for M-Braves

Pearl, MS - It took 12 innings, but the M-Braves won their fifth straight game on a walk-off double by Matt Young. The Braves got a run in the bottom of the fourth and the Lookouts tied the score in the top of the fifth. It remained tied at one until the bottom of the 12th when Young's double plated Kody Kirkland with the game-winning run.

The Braves got on the board first after Kala Ka'aihue hit his first triple of the year in the fourth. KK hit a liner to right that Jamie Hoffman dove for and missed. With two outs in the inning, Brandon Hicks hit a sac-fly to right and KK slid under the tag at home to give Mississippi a 1-0 lead.

Chattanooga knotted the score with a sac-fly of their own in the top of the fifth. Russell Mitchell walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. A Juan Gonzalez single got Mitchell to third and Victor Mercedes' sac-fly to left tied the score.

The score remained tied at one until the bottom of the 12th inning. Kody Kirkland drew a lead-off walk and Gorkys Hernandez moved him into scoring position with a sac-bunt. Matt Young then hit a walk-off double that easily scored Kirkland from second to give the Braves their fifth straight win.

Kyle Cofield gave up a run on three hits through five innings and left the game with the score tied at one. He lowered his ERA to 2.81. Brian Dumesnil, Jeff Lyman, Kevin Gunderson and Brett Butts combined to hold the Lookouts scoreless over the final seven innings. Butts (2-0) got the win after throwing two scoreless innings.

Travis Chick gave up a run on four hits over 4.2 innings. He came out of the game with an injury with two outs in the fifth. Francisco Felix, Matt Sartor and Paul Koss tossed 6.1 scoreless innings. Jacobo Meque (0-3) took the loss after allowing the game-winning run in the 12th.

Mississippi and Chattanooga will wrap up this five-game series Friday night at 7:05 pm at Trustmark Park. RHP Ryne Reynoso (0-1, 5.59) will take the hill for the Braves against Chattanooga lefty James Adkins (0-2, 15.95).

The first 3,000 fans at Trustmark Park will receive a free 2008 Southern League Championship Canvas Photo and the heroes from Star Wars will be in attendance. Fans will get to see the Braves Friday Night Fireworks Extravaganza after the game.
