Thomas Captains Smokies to 6-2 Win

JACKSON, Ten. -The Smokies (7-6) win game four of five at West Tenn, and guarantee a series victory. Tennessee holds first place in the Southern League North by a half game over Huntsville.

Casey Coleman picked up the win for the Smokies and improves to 3-0. He went 6 innings in the start and allowed just two runs on six hits. Coleman walked three and struck out five.

Jaxx starter Luis Munoz tossed 6 innings allowing only two runs on five hits. He would leave the game with the score tied and did not factor in the decision.

Tennessee scored the games first two runs with single tallies in the second and third innings. Richie Robnett singled home Brandon Guyer. Then in the second Thomas tagged and scored on Ty Wright's fly ball to right.

The Jaxx scored twice in the 5th inning to tie the game at two. Ezequiel Carrera grounded out to score Javier Brito. Oswaldo Navarro would then single home Matt Mangini.

In the seventh inning the Smokies would take the lead for good. Matt Mangini committed a throwing error at third that would allow two runs to score.

Tony Thomas smashed his Southern League leading fourth homerun in the ninth. The two-run shot put Tennessee up 6-2 for good.

A key situation in the contest happened in the eighth inning. The Diamond Jaxx loaded the bases with no outs on three straight singles by Carrera, Navarro and Marshall Hubbard. Smokies reliever, Vince Perkins then fanned Adam Moore and Greg Halman swinging, and then Johan Limonta lined out to shortstop ending the inning.

The series concludes Friday night at 8:05 from Pringles Park. Jay Jackson (0-2, 8.00) is set to start for the Smokies while West Tenn will call on Patrick Ryan (0-1, 21.00).
