11-Run Explosion Snaps Five-Game Skid

JOLIET, Ill. - The Kansas City T-Bones (27-34) scored 11 runs on 14 hits as they snapped a season-high five-game losing streak with an 11-4 win over the Joliet JackHammers (24-39) tonight at Silver Cross Field.
Rory Shortell (3-3) started perfectly for Joliet, facing the minimum through the first three innings before surrendering a three-run home run to Craig Hurba with one out, giving Kansas City a 3-0 lead. The blast was Hurba's first home run since July 1, a span of 18 games. He went three-for-four in the contest, falling a triple shy of the cycle while driving in three.
Shortell left the game after six innings having allowed three runs on six hits in the loss.
Making just his second start since June 25, Chris Rhoads (4-3) retired the first seven he faced before hitting Rob Dahlberg with a pitch in the third. Rhoads immediately picked Dahlberg off first and struck out the next batter to end the inning. The right-hander allowed leadoff singles to Kevin Rios in the fourth and Tug Gillingham in the sixth but faced just one over the minimum through six innings.
Devin Anderson entered for the JackHammers in the top of the seventh and surrendered four runs on three hits to give Kansas City a 7-0 lead. After a bases loaded walk to Neb Brown plated the first run, Ryan Fox followed with a hit by pitch to force in the second tally. Jim Fasano capped off the frame with a two-run, ground-rule double.
Joliet put multiple runners on base just once in the contest when they loaded the bases against Rhoads with two singles and a walk in the seventh. Rhoads left in favor of Cody McAllister with one out. The first batter McAllister faced, Freddie Thon, hit a grand slam to drive the JackHammers' only runs of the contest.
Rhoads was charged with three runs on four hits over six and one-thirds innings in the victory. He is now 2-0 in starts against the JackHammers this season.
Damian Rolls made the score 8-4 with an RBI single off Derek Barrows in the eighth. Fasano finished the scoring with a three-run home run in the ninth, capping the final at 11-4. Fasano finished two-for-five with five RBI in the contest. Aharon Eggleston went three-for-four to push his hit streak to 10 games, tying him with Mark Minicozzi (June 20 - July 1) for the longest by a T-Bone this season. The centerfielder is now batting .422 through 19 games in July.
Daniel Sattler threw two perfect innings to close out the game for Kansas City. He struck out the final four batters he faced.
Kansas City sends Luis Villarreal (3-3, 3.24) to the mound tomorrow night looking for a series win against Ryan Gehring (3-6, 4.64) and the JackHammers. First pitch is set for 5:05.
