Joliet SS Kevin Rios Extends His Hitting Streak to 24 Games, Longest in Northern League this season

JOLIET- On a night where Joliet SS Kevin Rios (1-4) moved past Dee Brown of the Winnipeg Goldeyes to secure a 24-game hitting streak, the Kansas City T-Bones (27-34) combined for 11 runs on 14 hits to earn a 11-4 win over the Joliet JackHammers (24-39) before 2,806 fans at Silver Cross Field. Rios hit a leadoff single in the 4th inning to extend the record and now sets his sights on former JackHammer Cory Harris' Northern League record 28 game hitting streak that was set back in 2003 with St. Paul.

The Kansas City T-Bones utilized the long ball for three runs in the 4th inning against Joliet RHP Rory Shortell (3-3). CF Aharon Eggleston (3-5) led off the inning with a single and 1B Damian Rolls (1-5) popped out. RF Greg Jacobs (0-4) was hit by a pitch and C Craig Hurba (3-4) hit a three-run home run over the right field wall for a 3-0 Kansas City lead.

The T-Bones scored four more runs in the 7th inning to increase their lead to 7-0. SS Jeff Helps (1-4) led off the inning with a single and moved to second base on a single by Eggleston. Rolls popped out and RF Greg Jacobs (0-4) flew out. The JackHammers intentionally walked Hurba to load the bases and then walked 2B Neb Brown (2-4) to force in a run.

LF Ryan Fox (1-4) was hit by a pitch to force in another run. DH Jim Fasano (2-5) followed with a two-run double to give Kansas City a 7-0 lead.

The JackHammers scored four runs in the 7th inning to get within three runs. 3B Wally Backman, Jr. (1-4) singled and LF Brad Correll (0-3) walked. CF Joe Gaetti (1-4) singled and 1B Freddie Thon smacked a grand slam home run to make it 7-4.

After the T-Bones scored a run in the 8th inning on an RBI single by Rolls, Fasano hit a three-run home run in the 9th inning to make it 11-4 in favor of Kansas City.

Loose Gravel: Brown put together a 23-game hitting streak from June 5-July 3. Rios started his hitting streak on July 27.

The JackHammers and T-Bones finish their series on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. It's another Family Autograph Sunday at Silver Cross Field. The Kansas City T-Bones send LHP Luis Villarreal (3-3, 3.24) to the mound against LHP Ryan Gehring (3-6, 4.64) for Joliet.
