Hillsboro Hops News Release

EUGENE, ORE. --- Hillsboro held a 2-0 lead going to the bottom of the third on Sunday night in Eugene, and the Emeralds had scored just one run in the previous 41 innings against Hops pitching. That changed quickly.

The Emeralds scored three times in the third and three more in the fifth against Hops starter Cody Reed (though just two of the runs were earned), capped off by an Ian Rice solo home run. They added four more in the seventh (three earned) against Justin Donatella en route to a 10-4 win. The win puts the Emeralds (19-13 second half, 36-34 overall) a game up on the Hops (18-14, 40-30) in the second-half South Division standings. Salem-Keizer is three games out with six games remaining.

Salem-Keizer and Eugene are now tied in the season-long overall standings, which will come into play if the first-half champion Hops win the second half as well.

Hillsboro's defense, which has been solid since the first couple of weeks of the season, struggled tonight. Sergio Alcantara, playing shortstop for just the third time since Dansby Swanson's arrival on August 12th, committed three of Hillsboro's five errors.

Hops first baseman Trevor Mitsui drove home a run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning, the sixth consecutive game he has driven home a run. Although he is 0 for his last 13, he continues to find a way to bring home runs, and now has 21 RBIs (and seven home runs) in his last 15 games.

Hillsboro has Monday off, and open a three-game series on Tuesday in Boise. Pregame airtime is 5:15 on Rip City Radio 620 AM and www.RipCityRadio.com.
