1-On-1 with Cody Chupp Following USHL Trade Deadline

Lincoln Stars News Release
Lincoln Stars general manager and head coach Cody Chupp was satisfied with the current makeup of his roster on Monday, prompting him and the club to stand pat at the USHL trade deadline.
"We spent a lot of time near the end of last year in the summer and in the draft building this team," Chupp said. "We've said from the get-go that we really like the group. We're pleased with the personnel, not only the type of people they are, but the players they are. For us, it's about making sure we get better every single day."
Chupp said his staff was unwilling to trade younger players projected to lead the Stars down the road.
"To make a move like that, what we would have to give up, in our eyes, are important pieces for us in the future," Chupp remarked. "In that, you have to make sure you're doing what's right, not only for us this year, but the future of this organization."
"You look at the young guys that we've had all year: Spencer Smith, Zach Urdahl, Dom James, Owen Michaels, Dalton Norris, Jacob Bauer. They're going to be the guys that fuel our culture next year. To take them out of our locker room and send them to a different place, now you start to put that consistency of culture and identity in jeopardy because those guys are the guys that are going to have to lead the way for you next year."
Following Lincoln's three-game weekend (1-2), Chupp also said it was important to not make transactions in a reactionary manner.
"When you look at our weekend, the game that we won [Friday] was probably our worst performance out of the three," Chupp added. "You have to really take a step back and not make moves based on the mood you're in Sunday evening after our game in Omaha. We have to look at how we're performing, 'What it is that we need?' When we talked through it as a staff, what we need is to improve on our details within our group."
"To say that bringing in one piece is going to be a game-changer for us, whatever it is, we just weren't in a position that we thought that was something that would change that for us," Chupp continued. "We thought the personnel that we have are capable; we just have to improve those little details and how we help each other succeed."
