Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

DES MOINES, IA - Des Moines has acquired Harvard commit Forward Ryan Drkulec (2000) from the Waterloo Black Hawks in exchange for Forward Joey Strada (1999).

"We would like to welcome Ryan to the Buccaneers' family. Drkulec is a proven point producer and comes to us with over 100 USHL games under his belt," GM Tom Mannino said. "He has a really good stick while playing a smart, physical and heavy game. He's tough to knock off of the puck and plays responsibly in his own end."

The 6-foot-5 Mansfield, TX native has accrued 11 goals and 21 assists for 32 points in 42 games this season with Waterloo. The former Shattuck St. Mary's Sabre is in his second USHL season and has career USHL totals of 23 goals and 32 assists for 55 points in 97 games played. Last season, Drkulec played for Team West in the 2019 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Lincoln, NE. He will wear #71 for the Buccaneers.

"As we get closer to the end of the season the game pace elevates and the intensity heightens," Mannino said. "Ryan is exactly the player we were looking for at this crucial time of year.

Des Moines prepares for a single game this week on Thursday night vs. Green Bay. It's a "Thirsty Thursday" at Buccaneer Arena, with $1.00 hot dogs on sale and beer sampling from Carroll Brewing. Puck drops at 6:35pm.
